Sunheri Shubhodaya - SURAKSHA CHAKRA for JHARKHAND
The Sunheri Shubhodaya (Suraksha Chakra for Jharkhand) is an extension of the Suraksha Chakra initiative that began in Kerala. Launched in Konbir Gram Panchayat, Basia Block, Gumla District, the project is a joint effort of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bangalore, the National Insurance Academy (NIA), Pune, and Montfort Sr. Secondary School, Konbir. It focuses on building social intellectual capital by engaging students in insurance literacy and financial inclusion, while addressing the vulnerabilities of rural and tribal households.

Through survey training held on 11 March 2025, and fieldwork across seven villages—Saraidhi, Bhandartoli, Konbir, Noatoli, Mohri Basti, Bhagidera, and Gudam—students, ASHA workers, and Panchayat officials visited 955 households. The findings revealed 1,804 uninsured individuals between the ages of 18 and 70, of whom 1,415 consent forms were collected for enrollment under PMSBY and PMJJBY.

The initiative also gained policy-level encouragement when the team met the Agriculture Minister of Jharkhand, Ms. Shilpi Neha Tirkey, reinforcing the government’s support for financial protection in rural communities.
The Sunheri Shubhodaya Suraksha Chakra in Jharkhand represents the beginning of a larger vision for Eastern India. With its success in Basia, Gumla, the model is now positioned for replication across other Gram Panchayats in the state. The long-term goal is to achieve 100% insurance coverage, similar to the milestone reached in Kerala, Chakkitapara, and Marasuru, ensuring that no family remains unprotected against unforeseen risks.
