Golden Embrace
Where Curiosity Meets Experience
Connecting generations through stories, relationships, contribution and shared purpose.
Golden Embrace is an intergenerational initiative of the Department of Professional Studies, CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, that brings students and elders together to share stories, experiences, knowledge and perspectives. The initiative is built on a simple belief: elders are not merely beneficiaries of social engagement; they are knowledge holders, storytellers, mentors and contributors. At the same time, students bring curiosity, energy, time and new perspectives. Golden Embrace creates a space where these strengths come together to foster meaningful relationships and mutual learning.
Our Approach
Golden Embrace moves beyond charity towards reciprocity. The project seeks to create relationships where both generations have something to give and something to learn.
Listen → Preserve → Connect → Exchange → Contribute → Research → Influence
The journey begins with listening and grows into relationships, shared learning, contribution and research.
KathaMitra
Stories that connect generations.
KathaMitra is the flagship initiative of Golden Embrace. Katha means story and Mitra means friend — reflecting the idea of becoming a friend through stories.
Students engage with elders through conversations that explore childhood, family, work, culture, traditions, turning points and life lessons.
The conversations begin with a simple question:
“If you were to tell me the story of your life, where would you like to begin?”
The emphasis is on relationship before documentation — listening with respect, recognising wisdom, preserving memories and carrying heritage forward.
What Students Gain
Golden Embrace creates opportunities for students to learn beyond the classroom.

Research & Documentation
Research will run alongside the programme to understand ageing, social connection, policies and global models, while preserving stories, traditions, language and heritage and evaluating the experiences of both elders and students.
