Diversity & Social Inclusion Initiatives
Where Learning Meets Purpose
About Us
Diversity and Social Inclusion Initiatives (DSI) is a student-led platform of the Department of Professional Studies, created to provide students with opportunities to take their learning beyond the classroom and apply it meaningfully in society. DSI brings together knowledge, professional learning, student initiative and social responsibility, creating a space where students can learn through experience, contribute to communities and grow into professionals who carry a sense of responsibility wherever they go. Student-Led. Faculty-Guided. Society-Focused.

WHAT IS DSI?
Learning beyond the classroom, Diversity and Social Inclusion Initiatives is an initiative of the Department of Professional Studies, initiated by Dr. Biju Toms, Director, SCFA, with the aim of creating a meaningful platform for students to connect their academic and professional learning with society. Students of the Department of Professional Studies pursue academic programmes alongside professional qualifications such as CIMA, ACCA and other professional examinations. DSI provides them with an opportunity to take the knowledge and skills they develop through these learning experiences and apply them in real-world contexts. It is a space where students can learn with society, learn from society and contribute to society. DSI encourages students to look beyond the boundaries of their classrooms and ask a simple but meaningful question: “How can what I have learned become useful to someone else?”

WHY DSI?
Education Becomes Meaningful When It Meets Reality Professional education prepares students for the world of work. DSI seeks to complement that preparation by giving students an opportunity to understand the world around them and experience the responsibility that comes with knowledge.
Through DSI, students are encouraged to:
-
Apply their academic and professional knowledge in real situations.
-
Understand diverse social realities and community needs.
-
Work collaboratively with people from different backgrounds.
-
Develop empathy, respect and social awareness.
-
Take responsibility for planning and implementing meaningful initiatives.
-
Learn how knowledge and professional skills can create value beyond conventional workplaces.
-
Develop the confidence to identify challenges and respond with meaningful ideas.
DSI seeks to prepare students not only to become capable professionals, but also responsible individuals who remain conscious of the society they are a part.

OUR VISION
To nurture socially conscious and professionally capable individuals who apply their knowledge with excellence, empathy and respect, creating meaningful value for society wherever they contribute.
Nurturing Professionals With Purpose
OUR MISSION
From Knowledge to Meaningful Action
To provide students of the Department of Professional Studies with a nurturing platform to transform academic and professional learning into meaningful social action through student-led initiatives, faculty guidance, collaboration and community engagement.
WHAT WE BELIEVE
Excellence in Learning. Responsibility in Action.
At CHRIST, excellence and service are values that we seek to nurture in students. DSI provides a space where these values can be experienced through action. We believe that excellence is not only about how well one performs academically or professionally. It is also about how one uses knowledge, skills and opportunities to create value for others.
Similarly, service is not simply about giving. It is about:
Understanding: Listening to people and recognizing their realities.
Respecting: Valuing every individual and every perspective.
Sharing: Making knowledge and skills accessible where they can create value.
Collaborating: Working with people rather than simply working for them.
Acting: Turning understanding and ideas into meaningful action.

AN OPEN SPACE FOR IDEAS
Your Idea Can Become an Initiative
DSI is not limited to a predefined set of initiatives. Sometimes, meaningful change begins with a student who notices something that needs attention. A social challenge, a gap in access, a community need. An opportunity to share knowledge. Or simply an idea that could make a difference. When students identify such an opportunity and wish to act on it, DSI provides an open space for them to explore, develop and nurture their ideas. Students can receive support through guidance, mentoring, training, planning, collaboration and other resources available through DSI. The intention is simple:
If you see a need and believe you can contribute, DSI gives you a space to begin.
Have an Idea?Bring it to DSI.

WHO WE ENGAGE WITH
Learning Through People and Communities
DSI creates opportunities for students to engage with diverse sections of society, including:
Rural Communities: Supporting meaningful learning, awareness and development opportunities.
School Students: Creating opportunities for young learners to gain knowledge, skills and new perspectives.
College Youth: Encouraging peer learning, awareness and professional development.
Educators: Collaborating with educators and institutions to strengthen learning and community engagement.
Rural and Unemployed Youth: Supporting individuals who seek opportunities to develop relevant knowledge and skills.
Communities Seeking Support: Responding to identified needs through knowledge, skills, collaboration and student-led action.
Through these interactions, students are not only contributing their knowledge they are also learning from the people and communities they engage with.
WHAT WE SEEK TO NURTURE
More Than Skills, DSI seeks to nurture students who are prepared not only for professional success, but also for meaningful participation in society.
Competence | The confidence to apply knowledge in real situations.
Empathy | The ability to understand experiences different from one's own.
Respect | The willingness to engage with every individual with dignity.
Responsibility | An awareness that our knowledge, choices and abilities can influence others.
Collaboration | The willingness to listen, learn and work with others.
Leadership | The confidence to take ownership and turn ideas into action.
Innovation | The courage to look at challenges differently and explore new possibilities.
Reflection | The ability to learn from experience and continuously improve.
Social Awareness | An understanding that professional life and social responsibility need not exist separately.

WE BELIEVE...
Every Student Has Something to Contribute
Every student has knowledge worth sharing | Every community has knowledge worth learning from | Every social challenge can begin with a question | Every idea deserves the opportunity to be explored responsibly | Every professional can contribute to society, wherever they choose to work.
BEYOND THE CLASSROOM. BEYOND THE CAMPUS. BEYOND GRADUATION.
The Professional We Hope to Nurture
DSI is not designed only for what a student does while they are at university. It is also about who they become after they leave.
We hope to nurture professionals who carry with them a simple thought:
“Whatever I do, wherever I work, there is a place for society in what I do.”
Whether they enter the corporate world, build a business, pursue a profession, work in education or choose another path, students carry with them the experiences of working with people, understanding communities, solving problems and taking responsibility. DSI seeks to make excellence and service part of that professional journey.
